Visitors to the Scarborough Renaissance Festival 2017 will step back in time to the 16th Century to the festival’s 35-acre (re-created) English village celebrating the visit of King Henry VIII and his royal court with a Festival of Entertainment, Artisans, Food and Frivolity in honor of his daughter, Princess Mary.
The festival opens April 8 and runs every Saturday and Sunday (and Memorial Day Monday) for eight consecutive weekends through May 29, 2017. Gate admission is normally $28 for general admission and $13 for child 5-12, but BLF members will pay $22 for general admission and $12 for children ages 5-12. The festival includes 24 stages with non-stop entertainment, full combat jousting, Birds of Prey exhibitions, a human chess match, the Mermaid Lagoon, more than 150 performers. It also has 200 “shoppes” where artisans demonstrate crafts such as glass blowing, stone carving, metal forging, leather works, glass sculpting, Children can also participate in a Knighting Ceremony, and there’s a parade, rides, games of skills, and more.
The 2017 season begins April 8-9 with “Kids Free Weekend, where up to three children (ages 5-12) will be admitted free with each paid adult. Children 4 and under are always free. Seniors 65 and older can also get in for half price on opening weekend. Each successive weekend has a different theme and a variety of special events including the Royal Ale Festival, Celtic Weekend, Mother’s Day Brunch and Renaissance Romance’s Vow Renewal celebrations.
